My son takes a very long nap in the morning ( between 1.5 hours to sometimes 3 hrs) so I put him to bed at 6:00 and he usually sleeps through the night till about 5:30-6:00 in the morning.

Is that when he starts his day, or does he go back to sleep? I'm asking because I put mine to sleep at about 8:00, but he's usually tired before then. I'm just afraid that if he goes to sleep earlier then he'll wake up earlier too. And no, I'm not ready to start my day at 5:30-6:00!

If he's tired before 8, putting him to bed earlier will most likely not cause him to wake up earlier. Hopefully he will still wake up at the same time, and may even sleep later!

According to the healthy sleep habits book it works counter intuitively so the earlier you ut them asleep before becoming over tired the better stretch of sleep theyll get. My 11 month old goest to sleep between 6 and 7 every night and wakes up 12 hours later. Then after nursing I let him play in bed with us for like a half hour and then put I'm back ihis crib and he goes to sleep for another hr to hr and a half. He has one other nap besides this at 12 for 1 to 2 hours.
