I'm in middle of making my 13yo dd a dress for y't. She chose the colors, so don't say anything about the black . She saw the style before I made it and she chose the fabric, but I chose the trim. Now she says the middle part is weird and my dh doesn't care for the dress either. The fabric is a light weight wool with texture and the lace is also wool. I'm on the verge of not finishing it, but my dd said why not. Please give me your honest opinion and tell me what you think.
One more thing, I plan on putting a strip of trim about 1/2" away from the edge of the sleeve.

How sweet that you're making her a dress. It looks very normal to me.

It's not supposed to be anything special, it's just for shabbos. I'm just getting negative comments at home, so...

I think its pretty.
How does it look on? If it fits well, I would think that the lace trimming would definitely add to the dress.
And amother, get a life.

I think the trim at the waist is pretty, although I don't particularly go for the fabric on top. Looks like it will look excellent on.

None of our opinions on this matter, you really don't need them. You're making the dress for your daughter, and says you should finish it, so what do the rest of us have to say on the matter? Nothing constructive. If she likes it, and she will wear it, then pay no attention to anything anyone else says.

if you want my honest opinion, I think the middle part detracts form the dress on the whole and does look a bit strange - is there any chance of adding to the top lace instead, perhaps making two overlapping layers of lace?
also, speaking unfortunately form experience, if dd doesn't like it now, she won't wear it either.

I just asked a 13-year-old and she says if your dd likes it then it's great.

I think there are too many things going on. I would have the sleeves all one colour. I also don't really like the lace top or trim much. The style is pretty though. If the lace part went down over the trim, and there was more lace on the sleeves as well, (3/4) it might look better.
next time, sketch out the dress for her so she knows exactly what it will be. Save you time and energy.

I just reread your OP and it seems that dd likes it - in that case, to hack with everybody else's opinions - finish it and she should wear it in good health.

Is there a way to change just the middle part?

I don't particularly like the top, but it could look cute on a 13 year-old who isn't too developed.
Have her try it on and see how it looks. If she doesn't like the middle, can it be replaced with a solid (untrimmed) piece of wool?

I don't love it, it's a little busy. But I'm impressed that you made it. See if you can tone down the middle.
