How do you get tzitzis strings really white?
I tried putting them in a jar with a little bleach and some water, but it seems like nothing's happening...

I can't tell you how to get them really white, but DON'T bleach them -- the bleach makes them brittle and causes them to break.

The strings are wool and will be destroyed by chlorine bleach. Try soaking in lemon juice and laying them in direct sunlight to dry. If you can spread them on a bush or on a grassy lawn, so much the better--the chlorophyll is reputed to help whiten the fibers in some way, though that may be a myth. Or you can try soaking in Oxyclean but read the label--even Oxyclean may not be safe for wool.
