1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable or canola oil, plus more for frying
4 skinless boneless chicken breasts (about 1 1/2 lbs.) cut into cubes
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup hot sauce
1/4 cup honey
DIRECTIONS

Blend together flour, cornstarch, 2 tablespoons sugar and baking powder in a large bowl. Whisk in water and 1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil. Add chicken; stir to coat.

Heat 1 inch oil in large skillet over high heat. When oil is hot, add chicken in a single layer. Fry until golden brown, bout 3 – 4 minutes each side. Place fried chicken into a 9x13 greased baking dish. Repeat with remaining chicken.

Preheat oven to 350° F (180° C). Whisk together brown sugar, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, hot sauce and honey. Pour sauce over chicken. Bake uncovered, about 20 minutes.

Any ideas to get the crunch factor without deep frying?

Bump. Made these again tonight and tried to let the chicken stay in the frying pan longer to get crisp but it still doesn't have the Popper factor to it....
