So my son's new rebbe had all the kids in the class write down their bedtimes today and my son claims that he's the "only" one with such an early bedtime and he was very embarrassed. Now, his bedtime is 9:00 and it takes him a while to fall asleep. He has a hard time waking up in the morning and is a grouch when he has too little sleep. Are all the other kids really going to sleep at 10:00 or later?? Were they exaggerating to the Rebbe?

5the grade DD 8:30 shower, 9:00 bed. She also complains sometimes so I think sometime during this school year I'll push it off by 15 mins or so.

9:00. It's a recent change. Ideally, it's shower at 8:45, bed at 9:00, but usually she starts bedtime at 9:00. She's OK in the morning, but if she went to bed much later consistently I don't think she would be.

I think it depends on what time the kid needs to be up and out in the morning and the kid's morning nature. Some kids can get up and out easily on less sleep and some need morning time and can't function going to sleep late.
In my house, it also makes a difference on how they get to school, if they walk themselves then being late isn't as bad, If they catch a bus and school is far, I make sure they don't miss the bus as it's then my problem.

By me it's 8:15 shower, around 8:30 bed. She reads a little and unwinds and is usually asleep by 9:00.

My DS 4th grade goes to sleep (lights out) at 9:30. He usually wakes up by himself (not alarm or parent) before he needs to (7 AM).
