My 13 month old just started walking and I'm planning on fitting her for her first pair of shoes. Where's the best place in the boro park/ flatbush area to go? I would prefer something affordable and cute for her age with lots of support. No venettinis or any of the other fancy brands. Thanks!

If you're open to coming Into the city, Harry's in the UWS is great

I love OOMPH on 16th Avenue they have a broad range of prices and styles. That said I recently heard not everyone was happy there. You do have to be decisive and know what you want because they are used to serving the Boro Park community who just want the latest styles and colors to match xyz and don't care about the $$$.

They have a decent amount, I have been using them for seven years.

I walked into OOMPH yesterday and was not at all impressed by the selection. I do not like or appreciate the styles that little toddlers are wearing these days and I'm not willing to pay so much. I just want simple, cute and down to earth shoes, similar to Stride Rite style.. Does any jewish store like this exist aside from Stride Rite?

I don't think you'll find stride-rite prices anywhere in boro park, but maybe now with sale season you'll be lucky.

I always buy the first pair at Nordstrom. I feel like the employees really know how to fit the shoes and they have the best customer service. It is well worth a shlep to me. After the first pair or two, I buy on 6pm.

I always get my kids their first shoes (and most of their other shoes) from stide rite. Luckily I have a stride rite outlet store not too far from me so I can do really well there (especially when they have buy 1 get 1 50% off sales). I don't know if there are any stride rites in the brooklyn area though.

Do you have Stride Rite near you? Best quality shoes, expertly fitted. It's worth paying a little more for the first pair.
