Sorry if this sounds ignorant, but this is something I have been wondering about. Is he obligated to sleep in the succah even if it means I will be real lonely?

why can't you both sleep in the sukka?
It is not our minhag and even if it was, arctic weather conditions would make it impossible, (winter suddenly began 2 days ago, just in time for sukkos!) but I wouldn't mind sleeping in the sukka with dh if it was normal weather.

If we had our own sukka I would love to! We'll be going away though, so this isn't an option.

Go and check out a Shulchan Aruch. It says if he is mitztaer... not his wife...
I also don't know where you live, and what the climate's like.
The answer is, ask your rav of course. But remember it's a Torah mitzva, and you can comfort yourself that you're having real mesirus nefesh for the mitzva.

In other words, does he care that he's sleeping without you?

Maybe it causes the man tza'ar to know that his wife is terribly lonely without him?

I know that the shulchan aruch says its a mitzvah but I also know that there are groups that dont do it for chassidic reasons. I guess op it depends on who you are.
