unauthorized opinion:
corp. as an abbreviation for corporation is pronounced with the p sound
corps as in Marine Corps comes from the French (?) for body and the p and the s are silent (as are a lot of French letters...)
I once said the word pint (pie-nt) and my son told me he had always read it as pint (pin-t) then my daughter said she did too

I used to pronounce is Ermay, but I once heard it on Will & Grace, and it was pronounced Hermez.

I think it's Ermez, since the initial H in French is not pronounced.

I think spitting image is correct.
What about route? Some people say it like root, some say it like r-ow-t.

I think both pronunciations of route are acceptable.

It is actually from the phrase "spirit and image", implying that one is the "spirit and image" of another...
I'm from the country and it always made sense to me to say "spittin' image", as if to imply it appears that a child looks so much like one its parents that it was as if that parent just "spit" him/her right out!

How do you-all pronounce "creek", as in a small, flowing stream of water? Where I am from they say "crick", where I live now they say "creek"

I ahve this problem also except it is with the street in Jerusalem named Pines. I try to say it the ENglish way (likes the trees) since the Hebrew way sounds offensive to my ears.
A while ago we were flying to the US through Dulles airport in Washington DC. DH insisted on calling it Dew-elles even though everyone told him it was pronounced Dull-es.
Thanks fr this thread it really made me laugh.
