Flanken meat

Soy sauce and brown sugar

Lots of barley and water (there is a specific science to figuring out the exact amount) so that it gets mushy but not dried out

Lots of Montreal Steak Spice (McCormick).

I also sauté the onions for a very long time before adding anything else.

My kids find hot dogs special, so they get that in there!

Kishke is super yum but no one eats eat around here, so we don't do it. But I love it at kiddushim.

Beer
Smoked Paprika
A ridiculous amount of fresh garlic - because there is no such thing as too much garlic

Potato Kugel directly in the pot (yes I use a pot.)

Chicken gizzards. My husband and 1 child love it.
Flanken with the bone, it's super soft and yummy.
I use navy beans.

Everyone has different things that they like. Like I know some people love gizzards but I wouldn't eat chulent with it.
Some people put things that make it sweet but my family likes it spicy.
I like putting in cumin but my brother hates cumin.
Taste is subjective.

I make a “fish “cholent.” It’s not really cholent, more like fish stew. But I actually prefer it to regular cholent.

I agree. Just it's very hard to get, almost no supply.

I always first check for cheek meat. If there isn't I buy flanken with the bone instead.
