My aunt just got her IBCLC. Apparently it’s very complicated to get and you need to complete a lot of hours…

Is that the certification for the average frum lactation consultant or do they operate with a lower level certification?

I would hope that the frum ladies that call them selves lactation consultant’s have their IBCLC
You can just become a lactation counselor which is less schooling and work but then you can’t rlly help people hands on

Consider becoming a volunteer La leche leader. Many people use those hours to bridge to icblc but you’re probably still going to have to work for free in a lactation clinic unless you’re a nurse working in post natal in a hospital.

No hands on like helping with the latch and positioning only giving advice

I'm currently doing it now. There are 3 pathways in order to be eligible to take the certifying exam. See their website for more info.

I am doing pathway 1 as someone with a background in a related health sciences field. I am an RN and have 1000 hours of related activities working with new moms BF, pumping etc. Additionally I had to complete 95 educational hours which I did via an online course.

There are 2 other pathways to get to the exam, I am not knowledgeable enough to speak about the details.

echoing what the others said getting your ibclc cert is a long process as it should be
but becoming a lactation counselor is much faster and easier but you arent allowed to physically help the mother and baby, more only allowed to give the advice...
