I think a lot of it will depend on the locations, local rules, and the individuals themselves.

I live near a hospital, and even before Covid I would sometimes see people coming out of the hospital wearing masks, or getting off the bus near the hospital with a mask on their face. Clearly these people had medical issues of some sort. So yes, those people will be masking, I would assume, Covid or no Covid.

Then you have people like me, where I have a household member with developmental and medical issues, for whom Covid (among other things) is more of a challenge to his health. While the rest of my household doesn't mask as often (at least one of their jobs still requires it), for me and that particular family member, masking is still the rule. I don't want him getting sick and having additional problems, and as his primary caretaker, if I catch something, the odds are strong that he will catch it from me. So, that's us, and we are just dealing with the situation, because right now that's what needs to happen.

I understand you are caring for a delicate person.

But masks can be harmful, they restrict oxygen.

If air can pass through, so can viruses.

To avoid colds, be scrupulous about washing hands with soap and hot water.

Wipe down door knobs and light switches with disinfectant wipes.

Take supplements, especially vit. C, vit. D

get enough sleep.

I wish I could view it as nothing, but my 42 year old cousin died from it two months ago. He wasn't sick and it was shocking and fast. There are two members of my community with long Covid who are most definitely seeing life impacting symptoms. Member of my household is immunocompromised. I am on an office Zoom right now and one of the administrators has Covid and is sick in bed. So, it's still around. While I understand that most people are unable or unwilling to continue the measures we took previously, it's upsetting that I get resentful looks when I wear a mask or refuse to put my face near others. Going to a very close family member's wedding and I will most definitely wear a mask.

If air passes through the mask, so do viruses.

There are better ways to prevent colds n flu,

so not covid per se but rather the treatment at that time R"L
And while covid may be based in reality the mask wearing is not
research has shown it did nothing Crying
years later from the initial onslaught and now we have facts on the ground as to what worked and also the "bonus" that the virus like all coronaviruses have mutated weaker at least B"H

Umm, if they needed to go on a ventilator in the first place, they were pretty sick!

Honestly at this point it's a mental disorder.

It's interesting you say that because I thought that some posters on this multipage thread must have a mental disorder. I thought the mask complainers have some sort of mental health issue that makes them unable to care about anyone but themselves. It appears that this mental health disorder makes people unable to perform a simple chesed of masking to protect sick and elderly people who often frequent doctor's offices and hospitals.

They were intubated much sooner than would have been for any other issues.

And for those whose condition was serious, they got to that point because of a specific policy to refuse any and all early treatment.

But if in reality masks don't do anything, how is it a chesed to wear one?

Eta. The poster was saying that it's a mental disorder to trust that the masks will keep you healthy and safe.

I totally agree with you that I only care about myself.
Masks make my asthma worse, so I don't care the beans if it makes you feel better if I wear one, I only care about me.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I once herd that a Sugla for long life is to be able to breath, but could be this Sugla is hog wash and I am an insensitive boor.

I recently moved to Massachusetts and live on the Mass/Conn border. Every medical facility I've been to in the Mass side requires masks. None on the Connecticut side do. Needless to say I picked an OB on the Connecticut side for my prenatal care.

I totally understood what the poster was saying, but I believe she was wrong. Any health professional can explain to you how masks significantly decrease transmission of many types of illnesses. It's surprising that so many Imas have had such a poor science education.

They were dying because they couldn’t breathe. This revisionist history is ridiculous.

I work in a nursing home. I’m happy to keep wearing my mask (still required) I don’t need to smell the gross yucky smells more than I have to (if I wouldn’t wear a mask ew ) it’s just a nice barrier between me and the patients.

Exactly. All of my family caught colds when we stopped wearing masks and the kids stopped in school. I had forgotten what being sick felt like. If you were ever really wearing them consistently it was very clear they did something. Even the surgical and cloth masks. And it defies logic to say they do nothing. Why would doctors wear them around sick patients if they did nothing?

No. Go read statistics. They intubated at 94% saturation rate & left them there for days. Weeks. They developed pneumonia & died, or oversaturated their lungs & brains with 02 essentially drowning them, causing brain damage.
I'm basing these facts on actual studies I've read.

I find it tiring to still be arguing about this. At the time, meaning in 2020-2021, my doctors and even my shul were in favor of wearing the masks. We did it and felt it was towards the greater good for keeping the virus from spreading. It was uncomfortable and I didn’t like it, but I did it because Gd forbid it was me who made a more vulnerable person sick. And it was for this reason that I got the vaccines. I don’t know who has such confidence that they KNOW it was pointless. Even doctors argue about it and not all of them are so-called leftists. I wouldn’t call my friends or my rabbi particularly left.

Considering how many elderly people died in communities that did not mask, I don’t know how frum people can say it was made up. But that’s me. Yes it was a chesed. Don’t tell me it wasn’t. You can consider it an imaginary chesed if you want, but the way I saw it, it was the only way to behave with information we had. And the whole point of medical grade masks is to let in air while keeping other things out. Just because air gets in, doesn’t mean a virus definitely will get in or in the concentration that is necessary to make a person sick.

Anyway my point is I am sick of ppl telling I was an idiot when all I was doing was trying to do my part to keep ppl healthy. If you want to call that mental illness, be my guest.

People were only vented if they were dying. The first strain of covid was very virulent. Pretending otherwise strains credibility.

And how do you know this for sure?

Also people were vented incorrectly. A respiratory therapist in a covid ward told me they had no clue what settings they were putting people on and were just guessing.

Am I the only one who finds this post concerning? It’s one thing to feel this way, quite another to post it publicly as if there’s nothing wrong with viewing your patients this way.

Your kids’ immune systems were stunted from not having been exposed to germs, hence the reason everyone got sick when they stopped wearing masks. It’s bot because the masks prevented anyone from getting sick.
Doctors don’t wear the regular flimsy blue masks that everyone was wearing, they wear n95 masks.

Nope they actually generally wear blue surgical masks. And how were they not exported to germs if not for the masks they were wearing? Your logic doesn’t follow.
