A migrant boat capsizing is way not exciting. Awful things happen to refugees all the time. Including migrants on boats in the Mediterranean. A bunch of rich people disappearing while on an underwater adventure sounds like an 1800s novel.

Were any of the passengers on the submarine American citizens? That would explain the rescue efforts on the part of the US government.

I think the CEO was American

Given that it's a remote area, and this kind of search involves very specialised equipment, it took time to get the most efficient search vehicles in place.

There have only ever been 4 successful submarine rescues in all of human history.

Most Navy/Coast Guard people would admit they assumed the submersible passengers were already dead by the time rescue efforts began, but it’s a rare opportunity to do a rescue training exercise where the US government doesn't have to pay for the set up (which is to say, a boat or sub sinking) and it's genuinely good practice for the crew.

As I posted earlier there's many sources that there were issues with almost every attempted trip.

This is so so tragic and horrible, but part of me is relieved that they died instantly instead of slowly suffocating to death in a claustrophobic tin can.

Anyone know if the wife of the CEO Wendy Rush is Jewish? She’s a granddaughter of the Straus couple from the titanic but that doesn’t necessarily make her Jewish!

I can’t stop reading about it I’m truly horrified. But it seems like at the very least the deaths were instant and no one suffered . I imagine they never even knew, if it’s any comfort at all to their families

From USA Today: According to The New York Times and Executive Director of the Straus Historical Society Joan Adler, Wendy Rush was born as Wendy Hollings Weil and is related to Minnie Straus, one of Ida and Isidor Strauses' daughters.

This doesn't say who her mother is.

The whole thing is terribly sad whether she was halachically Jewish or not. I didn't know these people, but I have such a bad feeling about it all.

Apparently the boom from the implosion was already detected by the Navy shortly after the titan's disappearance on Sunday.

Not sure why that wasn't made public at the time? Seems they were pretty clear that it imploded right from the start.
