I am 61. Would it be outlandish for me to go to school and get a degree?. Nothing fancy. I am very interested to be a reading specialist. Are there other mature women going to school? And if so, which school is more open to a Bubby in class? Online courses would be ideal but where would be the best place?

I'm in Touro, in my thirties. Had a classmate your age going for a quite involved extended major. I'm impressed!

I would say maybe to consider one of the quickie programs so you can be out and working asap.

Sorry cant help with your questions but I say go for it.
I knew a man who after many years in kollel decided to go to medical school. He started in his early 50s. He said it was the best thing he ever did.
I am in my middle 50s and am looking into going back to school also.

Go for it and keep us updated! That would be so inspirational and would encourage others!

It's never too late to go for education.

Not sure where you live but I know an older woman who is a reading specialist in ny and she charges $100/45 minutes. Extremely lucrative and a great decision! I'm actually looking to go into it as well.
Good luck!

Except that you don't want to load up on student loans right before retirement so careful planning is key.

I worked in a clinic where one of the social workers was a magnificent woman in her 80s. I assumed she'd been in the profession for decades, she had such insight and wisdom and presence. Turns out, she'd started her BA at 75, graduated with her master's at 79, had been a stay at home mom and homemaker all her life. I say go for it op! Your young! There's so much life ahead of you!

My mother passed away in her 60s from an illness. After she passed, we found an application to a professional school in her drawer. If you want it, please do it. Live your best life.

I was in graduate school in my late 20s. I was uncomfortable having instructors younger than me and I sought the advice of a friend who started medical school at 40 as to how to approach the situation. He said "my practice is to learn from anyone who is willing to teach me". That comment set me straight.
