This is a spinoff of the decaying hometown thread. I was going to just do NY because that’s where I’m from, but everyone can write about their hometown and how it’s changed and if anyone remembers. Don’t forget to write the location Wink

We mentioned this in my house the other day. Who remembers the OTB on Ave J? Where was it located exactly?

I remember as a kid always shopping in Monsey kosher plaza, where red delicious is now.

I also remember Frank's bakery...

I remember when the plaza was built, that later had a grocery store I think it was called Kosher Town, and Weingarten's shoe store next to it (I remember going to buy shoes in their house!)

I remember shopping in Eidenson's in their basement, or F&F.

I remember there being an old store called Masters, down Route 59...later was Western Beef (not Kosher, but we used to get fruit and vegetables there.) No idea what's there now.

Main Street was the center of town, which didn't extend that far....you could walk about 45 minutes in all directions to reach everything.

I remember M&M both locations on the same block! and then Telco was there.

I loved browsing at Harniks! Are they still around?

I remember when the "mall" on 13th was being built, that rotating pizza oven in Kosher Kastle was something I had never seen before...

Anyone remember where Amnon's was before they moved?

Old Monsey people....

Monsey Glatt was a hole in the wall, on a strip where the Shopper's Haven Mall is now. We used to go in there and get our meat order, and get pickles from a barrel. The walls were plastered with jokes...who remembers this?

There was a pizza truck that used to come in, I think Thursday nights, and you could get pizza and some other stuff....before there were any pizza shops.

Harniks!! I really liked that store as a kid.
J Stores used to be somewhere around there on Ave J too.
