I remember cheetham hill before the tesco came about. I used to go to the woolworths, ethel Austin, £ stretcher and Iceland. Iceland was only for those choc ices as far as I remember!
There was also a beautician across the road from where Ethel Austin was.

The house that jack built was the pub that was there. The bus stop on bury new that is now outside newberry place was called the house that jack built after the pub.
I remember that row of shops by it, with waldmanns and the patch of grass that became newberry place. And I remember them talking about it going to be a new tesco and we were all excited to have a supermarket down that end of the world.
And for those of us that lived in prestwich, when habers was where accessory world is now, and the excitement when they would open up the store next door for pesach. And when deli king was turned into habers and we all still called it deli king for a while after.
And the reli-on-us hardware store that was opposite. And then it became the prestwich mashers for a short time. And it's now the dentist.
And for those that were the right age in jewish high in the new building, watching in class as they built the new mikva.

Relionus is still there somewhere, on way to Prestwich village now.

Aaaah this thread is making me smile!!

I worked in Kosher Delights for a bit.
Woolworths, Ethel Austin, Cheetum 'ill Wink
That dreamy crembo from Swiss Cottage- tried explaining how their Crembo is like a different world to the nasty Israeli crembos to my Israeli husband (I love many things about Israel, but I can't deal with the Crembos after being spoiled by Swiss Cottage Wink )
I was a John's Gym-goer
And the fruit-and-veg shop on King's Road that apparently is no longer around- that was a big part of my childhood- owned by non-Jews- what was it called?
Ha this is fun!

The fruit and veg shop was Wayne's! The best!

Does anyone remember the chicken house in Heaton Park by the farm? Before they built the new animal area. I always dreamed of seeing an egg hatch while we were there!

They had such nice clothes, I remember getting a gorgeous ring from there.

Omg Habers used to have the deli king light up sign for years there. I didnt even know what deli king was, just always used to see the sign.

Who remembers that Jewish owned soft play on great cheetham street, jack in the box? Finally the kids could eat pizza and chips at a soft play and then it closed down Sad I think there were issues with the kashrus.

Does anyone remember around 10 years ago there was a fancy meaty restaurant that opened on bury new road on the corner next to sainsburys.
It wasn’t around for very long at all but it was meant to be very upscale and fancy. I can’t remember the name.

Omg. Such a funny thread.
Who remembers quick save in cheetham hill. And horowitz book shop there. And a fruit shop called tommy barrow or something.
And that shoe shop further down in cheetham hill called - had a parrot in corner. Think tysons was the name.
And then people went further out to tommy ball.or something for cheap shoes
Cafe aviv was a milky restaurant. Wasnt open long.
And sana had a blue straight skirt once that we all (bnos ) wore for school.
And cookery baskets- some schools still use I think.
And those roads down leicester road which are full of yidden we used to race down to get to the dentist- didnt look right or left coz so scared
Bernies barbers for the men.
And is it a myth or true that the house on corner of waterpark and roston with the bridge is sinking?!!
There was a place on way back from town called rialto so we used to tell the taxis to take us past rialto to get back home.
And the loud bang of the arndale bombing.
Could go on and on!!
Hello mancs!!

Rosenheads on leicestr rd.

It was so tiny.
You could hear everything!.
the newlyweds buying their nail polish remover for mikvah...

When Halperns extended and extended and extended again...

The old MH meats was Mr Halberstadt.
It had a massive cow on the front!

The old football field where Broughton Green is now.
We used to walk past the one on chelthenem on shabbos day and see all the little schoolboys leaving their match.
No one uses it now... I remember how the boys used to climb over the gate...

The old old Adas Yeshurun Building.
It was really old
