Just wondering if anyone has any good challah hacks? With yom tov coming up I realised I will probably be making several batches..
Do you make the dough on a different day to when you roll it?
Anything to help with the mess from flour, on surfaces and equipment? Do you let your kids join in the fun?

I bought these loaf pans on Amazon and it’s made my life so much easier.

Anaeat Silicone Baking Bread Loaf... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQ.....ss_tl

Also, I do a 1.5kg bag my rav said I can take challah from it. It makes exactly 6 loaves. I make it by hand so no cleaning a heavy appliance.

No, I try to make it before my kids come home because it’s much easier without them Twisted Evil

Sometimes I find it easier to make the dough the night before and leave it to rise in the fridge. That way I can just take the dough and start making it.

I sometimes make rolls for dinner. If so, I make it using 3kg of flour.

Best ever challah by esty wolbe on kosher.com is so easy to work with and comes out spectacular. That's my hack, using a really good dough so everything else is easier

Starting early in the day.

Using a very large easy to clean mat similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/Silicon.....ss_tl
The 24" x 36" size is big enough for me and an "assistant."

For the mess I spread a small plastic tablecloth and do everything on there.

For shaping, I learnt from faigy murray to make a football shape, them cut into three sections leaving the top attached, roll each section a bit then braid them together.

I just got this attachment for the kitchen aid dough hook https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BK.....ss_tl which is amazing for keeping the machine clean.

My main hack is that I make challah and chicken soup on Thursday and have them for supper Thursday night. This makes the work more manageable because it replaces a supper prep, and it's my family's absolute favorite supper. (I take custom topping requests for each person's rolls.) I also use part of the dough to make two babkas, so I get a lot out of the same mess and time.
