Any ideas why my apples don’t come out soft. My kids complain the apples are not soft. I tried slicing, dicing and shredding apples. Any advice?

Squeeze a little lemon juice on them before adding the crumbs. I also add sugar/ vanilla sugar/ and some cinnamon.

Dice the apples. Let them macerate before baking. Use a Pyrex or other real baking dish. The fruits should reach a bubbling point while baking. Bake in the lower third of the oven. If the topping is dark and fruits aren't soft yet, lower the temp and or cover lightly with foil or parchment and bake longer.

Use the large sweet Cortland apples which are made for cooking/baking.
