For those who give melatonin to 2+ year olds- does it help them STAY asleep (if they were waking up at night before) or did it just help them FALL asleep?

Only to help go to sleep.
I actually found they were waking up from nightmares with it.

However, there are slow released pills to help stay asleep.

I don't personally use them. Speak to your pediatrician; they can definitely help you.

Dosage that is too high causes nightmares and sleep disturbance. Most people are giving their kids way too much.

I was giving a quarter of a quarter. Very little.

My advice is to figure out why your child struggles to sleep. I only give melatonin to the child who really can't fall asleep without it and give more natural supplements such as magnesium to my other children. We started at 8 with melatonin. I hesitate to give it to my kids before trying everything else.

What else do you recommend besides melatonin. I’ve tried magnesium cream. Doesn’t seem to help. It’s not always falling asleep that’s the issue (although needs my help by either patting nursing rocking or just being there which I’m okay with).

I give a tiny amount & whenever I give, they wake in the night and make day. It helps fall asleep but not stay asleep.

Do you have any advice as to what to do to help KEEP them asleep? Anything you’ve tried help?

What do you consider to be a tiny amount?
