I don't know why in WhatsApp some people show up with names, even though they aren't in my contacts and I've no idea who they are, and other people just don't.

But if you're messaging someone you haven't previously messaged with, who is likely NOT to have you in their contacts list, you really should include your name in your message.

It's very weird getting messages like:

I just got off the phone with Chana and she told me you probably have extra bottles of vitamins I need. Can I pick some up and then replace them when my order shows up?
***
Can I borrow some folding tables?
***
I went to an info session for Camp Whatever and saw your daughter in the slide show. Call me to tell me about her experience.
***
What are you getting Hindy for her birthday? Do you want to go in on a group gift?
***
Can I have your husband's cell #?

These messages are weird and creepy when you have no idea who is sending them. It takes seconds to type: "Hi! This is Blah Blah from down the street" Or just sign your name at the end.

'I heard you're taking your boys to the pool tomorrow, can my Yanky join?'

'Sure! Make sure he's at my house by 5pm. By the way who is this?'

Very Happy
Or 'Can we come for Friday night meal'?
'Sure, looking forward. Btw who is this?'

On a serious note when I text someone whom I never did before or rarely I will preface by writing 'Hi, it's ____'

Altho I ususally know who it's from by the context and writing style.

I once lost all my contacts but managed to get most back by recognising my incoming texts.

When I get a message from someone I don't know, I assume it's an error or spam and ignore it.

All valid responses which I've used.
"Sorry I don't have your number saved. Who is this?"
"my phone is a little wonky with contacts..." "I lost some of my contacts..."

DLKZ note: Sometimes I message someone who I have messaged before- just above is a conversation we had a couple years ago. We see eaxh other often, but message rarely. But they ask who I am, because in between messages, they got a different phone or lost their contact info.

Lol! I texted someone who had no clue who I was. His mother asked me to send him the picture of what I bought as she didn't have whatsapp.
He said: I lost some of my contacts who is this?
I wrote back: " I was never in your contacts!!!"

That's funny!

Sounds like he was trying to be polite...
