What traditional Rosh Hashanah foods do you make?
No, I'm not planning my menu but I'm organising a pre-RH event for women and I'd like to do a buffet with RH foods from various traditions.
The only traditional food I make for RH is Tzimmes - carrots with sweet/honey flavoring.
Anyone have any more creative ideas?
All suggestions welcome! Recipes preferred.
Thanks!

look up the simanim. Some people grace their table with 80 varieties!

teiglach. Although many do not eat nuts on rosh hashana, many have the minhag to have teiglach, a sweet honey coated kichel type thing with nuts. Very yummy...

We do a whole procession of foods, enough so that by the time we get to the meal...
o Round Challot
o Honey
o Dates
o Banana (or other vegetable not normally eaten with meal)
o Leek
o Swiss Chard
o Black eyed peas (or fenugreek)
o Gourd (ie squash, pumpkin)
o Pomegranate
o Head of lamb/ram (usually turns out to be head of fish!)
o Apples and honey
o New fruit (2nd night)
Our actual meal is rather simple after all that!

OP, why don't you get hold of a "Simanei Rosh HaShanna" booklet and start from there? There is a procession of foods to make a bracha on.
