If our income stays the same or goes up then the next time I have a baby I will not be eligible for Medicaid. I’d like to get some idea of what it really costs oop

I know very well that this depends on your insurance plan

For those of you not on Medicaid can you tell me what your actual oop costs were for having a baby? Prenatal and labor/delivery/hospital stay.

Extra points if you tell me what insurance plan you have (I’m in the field so I appreciate these things).

I know each plan provides a SBC which gives an estimate of what the costs would be to have a baby on the plan. Curious how accurate those are.

One child $5000
Just had baby Friday. Depending on how much insurance pays out. Probably 7000....this is for homebirth. Includes prenatal and birth.

Ty for sharing. The 5k was also homebirth? Im interested in hospital birth prices with standard prenatal office visits
(My Dr does 1x a month from 8-12 weeks until 32 weeks and I think then it’s every two weeks till ninth month it’s once a week)

I once heard that there’s one copay for the prenatal/birth. I can’t figure out what that could mean or how it could be a blanket statement.

I have medicaid HMO plan. Dr doesn't accept.

Paid 13,000 which was his cap. For prenatal care, sonograms, c-section.

The bloodworks I paid with my insurance. Hospital stay as well.

Pp visit was supposed to be included but it was after 6 weeks so they charged me 350 as if it's annual checkup.

Originally I signed a global contract, that it will cost me 9,000 for everything, and had to pay a big chunk in advance. They told me 13 would he cap.

Turns out they kept charging me additionally. Sonos weren't included which we did every time. Because of high risk at end needed to come often. They didn't allow me to go to hospital to have Sonos done, so I can use ins. It had to be done, by their Sonos site.

Every time, I had emergency appt that was not scheduled, or if I saw two drs at once, or if Sonos had to be redone bc of fetal position, right after the one before etc they added charges, they also billed me extra for reviewing my sugars, which they demanded needed to be done weekly, till I reached 13. My baby was born at 34 weeks, the last 2 weeks, they couldn't charge anymore bc it reached cap. Bh ins paid for nicu stay.

Csection or reg birth they charge the same. So with surgery I mightve Come off cheap but if it would be reg it would also cost this amount.

I paid about 1700 for insurance monthly (dh and I together-couldn’t get insurance if dh didn’t get) but we had 2 separate plans on Oxford in network..I think my part was about 11 or 12 hundred.
Use a cash dr so paid I think 11,500 plus another 1000 for a c. B”H insurance did pay hospital stay and nicu… had a deductible (don’t remember how much)
But drs price included everything, all visits and sonos other than anatomy scan which insurance paid…
This time around bez”H gonna see how it works out with cheapest out of network insurance so that I can hopefully get something back…

Not sure if this is what you mean, but I have Oxford and I paid standard copay for my first " establishing pregnancy " visit. Then all standard prenatal care including ultrasound had no co-pays. Only other thing I had to pay was 500 per day hospital stay.

We pay into it with our taxes but it is free at the point of use.

Look at what the out of pocket max is on your insurance plan and assume you’ll hit it.

I think it was like 6k to the hospital and another 1k to anesthesia and another 1k for 20 week ultrasound.

I have Oxford and had a baby in December. My hospital bill was $4500. My husbands office gives a 2k stipend each year to pay for bills and we had basically used it all up before the birth mainly on appointments. I’d guess around 6k

1199 is the name of the plan.
It's a union plan.
When we had it there was no deductible. (Or premiums)

When I had fidelis through the marketplace, my premium was about $700 monthly, I had a deductible of a few thousand, but it fully covered prenatal care, so after paying $30 specialist copay to establish pregnancy, everything else was covered, including mfm visits and monthly/weekly ultrasounds. (The dr tried to bill me directly but I kept directing them to insurance. My balance finally reflected 0 at 6 months postpartum.)
My hospital bills were flat fee $500 for me and for baby.
I applied to charity care - my bill was brought down to $0.

$150 for the birth is all I paid throughout the pregnancy. I have a city of NY HMO plan

The doctor portion is usually the straightforward part, even if you would pay fully out of pocket they give you a price and stick to it even if you need more care as your pregnancy progresses It’s the hospital that’s the wild card.
I pay nothing for prenatal care and delivery and $750 for the hospital even though I generally have a coinsurance for everything else which. It’s UHC through an employer and not typical from what I understand.

I'm on uhc freedom. Officially it says I would pay $200 so I did pay a little extra.

We paid $7,500 for a planned csection with twins, would’ve been $6,500 for a singleton. The prenatal care was also a fortune but I don’t remember exactly, definitely at least a few thousand

Paid 4K to hit my out of pocket max and about 1k to cover the baby’s stay. The hospital charges separately for that once the baby is born which sucks.
