I learned you make a budget and see if one is making ends meet, if so, you deduct maaser. If not, then you're eligible for maaser and you don't take off 10% (you should do something though) until you are able to afford taking off 10%.

In order to calculate your maaser, you only deduct expenses that are related to your income as mentioned above. Child care you wouldn't otherwise have or cleaning help you only have because of the job or gas for the commute or a professional wardrobe. Anything you would have even if you didn't have a job doesn't get taken off the income.

Since my girls would be sent to school anyway, regardless of my work status, it's not deducted from my maaser funds.

We give chomesh, jpf, Lakewood.
Off net. Tbh, we just give & give & by end of yr we calculate it up & its usually abt 20-35%.

Income is abt 900k gross.
