I have noticed that at many weddings in both yeshivish and chassidish circles, tehillim books are handed out on the ladies side for the guests to recite tehillim during the chuppah. I have been wondering, can anyone shed light on what the appropriate kavona for this tehillim is? Also, is it appropriate to recite tehillim the entire time and not pay attention to the chuppah to the exclusion of answering amen to the brachos being recited? Just wondering.

I was told that during the chupa the gates of Shamayim are open and that that is the time for all of those present to daven. You can daven for the couple, for yourself - everything!!!
