What can I use as a pareve substitute for yoghurt in a cake recipe. Normally I would use soya milk as a substitute for cow's milk but I don't know what to use for plain yoghurt which is obviously thicker than milk. I'm not keen on using anything like Rich's whipping.

You could try using soy milk but just a little less.

apple sauce? mashed bananas? Usually yogurt is added for moisture or creaminess

I had the same dilemma and I searched for parve sour cream and couldn't find it at the store. I ended up using non dairy whipping cream (not yet whipped). It worked very well.

Rich's whip just won't come out the same. Even large supermarket chains now carry Tofutti sour cream and cream cheese for their lactose intolerant customers (look in the dairy case). If I couldn't find it for some odd reason my second choice would be non-dairy creamer and some vanilla pudding mix, not whip.

I regularly use soy milk instead of yogurt.
I just use about 3/4 cup soy milk for 1 cup yogurt.
never had a problem with it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had pareve sour cream in the fridge so I used that and the cake worked.
