Help!

I bought a bread machine with the primary intention of using it for weekday wholewheat bread and saving money on the many bought loaves that we go through. White bread is not very useful to us,and 50% whole wheat is not much better, particularly for one member of the family. Every wholewheat bread machine recipe that I have found after searching, including the one in the manual (only one recipe per cycle is provided) is for 50% wholewheat. I find it annoying that the machine claims to have a wholewheat cycle and then only provides a recipe for half and half. Is there some special reason why a bread machine cannot make wholewheat bread properly? Have I wasted my money? Does anyone have a recipe for non-sweet whole wheat bread not containing white flour? Or even for 70/80% wholewheat? Oh, and the recipe should be parve (all the recipes in the manual call for milk powder or milk).

I make 100% WW bread and challah in my machine.

Even if it calls for 50% WW I do all WW.
I find that adding gluten to the recipe makes it lighter

I make 100% whole wheat flour in my bread maker. Just try and use "white" whole wheat flour. Its just a different variety of wheat that is more similar to white flour when ground up. I use it for absolutely everything including baking.

Makes 2LB loaf - about 10 - 12 slices
1 1/4 cup + 2 TBS water
3 TBS oil
2 1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup + 2 TBL brown sugar ( I use less and you can prob use a sugar substitute for most. The yeast just needs some real sugar to activate)
4 C whole wheat flour
1 TBS dry yeast

I leave out the milk powder and sometimes replace 3 TBS of liquid for soymilk, although I dont really notice a difference.

I'v been making 100% ww bread recipes in the bread machine for 2-3 months now and still have not found that perfect loaf. I hear your frustration about them saying the recipe is whole wheat only to find that it's only half. I'm going to try the last poster's recipe today and see how it goes.

I forgot to mention I use 100% ww flour. If you are in Israel, then I use the Rubinfeld flour.

Can this recipe be halved? My bread machine only takes 5 cups of flour...

Yes, just make sure to cut down the water.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like it wouldn't be a disaster to use any recipe I like and substitute wholewheat for the white part. SorGold and shevi82, your recipes have a lot more sugar in them than I would want to use. We like our bread not to be sweet at all. I don't mind a tablespoon or two to help activate the yeast, but that's about it. If you take most of the sugar out of a recipe, do you need to make other adjustments?

Will it be ok in other bread machines?

Whole wheat bread

[3 1/3 cup whole wheat flour and 1/4 cup vital wheat gluten]
or [2 1/2 cup WW and 1 cup regular flour]
1 egg
1 cup water
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup honey
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp yeast

I like it best with King Arthur flour

I made this recipe today with SPELT flour and I used the quick program on the bread machine. It came out dense but so amazingly DELICIOUS. We couldn't believe how good it tasted!!!!!!!!!
