My next door neighbor has bedbugs and I'm terrified. I know from an infestation we had years ago that they travel through walls. I already ordered mattress protectors. What else can I do to help prevent getting them?

You can get bedbug preventive treatment from an exterminator. It's just spraying-you don't have to do the whole prep.

They're hard to prevent because they travel with people 
You can always throw everything into the dryer as soon as you get home, but you can't live like that.
I don't know if it can really be prevented.
