Is a shaitel considered big? LOL, probably! But, a new wig is always on a "want" list and never in the budget!

I know that a lot of people would appreciate a bosch or simple china set.
I would probably like an apple store gift certificate.

The auction I'm involved in, gift cards always do really well. General ones like Amazon, Target. Also Costco, Macys, ToysRus. It's good for everyone to participate in...people can ask their secular colleagues (if that's OK at their work) to participate. Grandparents from out if state etc.
Target and Amazon can stand on their own. Something likr Macy's and Costco can be given as a choice prize. Different types will go for them but will be a popular prize that brings in lots of money.

Gift cards. I like choosing my own things.
Also, nice toys for children or book collections.

I think for me there are two categories: things I don't need but would be super fun to win and things I 'need' that would be a bonus for my life.
Wants:
Fancy jewelry
Electronics
gift cards
expensive kitchen items
'Needs':
toy packages
book packages at a jewish store (We need more childrens books!!)
linen
I think the jewelry, gift cards, and toy packages catch my eye the most

Same here.
Although I usually choose the monetary prizes too, I'd probably be happier with an actual item or gift certificate - this way I know I will actually enjoy the prize. Whereas, if I got $5000 cash you can bet it'll first be used towards our living expenses!

OP asked for smaller prizes and people are responding with a lot of big ones... yeah we'd all like to win big but let's be realistic...
I would really really really really love to win a DSLR camera. But I am not the general public, I don't know if the general public would care as much or would rather put in for a regular camera with lots of bells and whistles.
Popular prizes I've seen in the couple hundred or less range include ipod touch, kindle, hot toys such as magnatiles (especially as part of a bundle) or American Girl, basically the stuff you said already but hey that's why people keep doing the same things, because they work. Every year I notice the clusters around those prizes at our community auctions. Gift certificates to fancy restaurants do pretty well too, especially if the winner gets to choose which one.
