15 is too young. 12th grade or seminary is right time, IMHO, but of course we all know our own kids best and what they are capable of.

to answer the op's query ... quite often in rape cases people cannot handle the association with the baby/child ... more often it's the person who was raped, but sometimes it's the other family members

(I'm pretty sure the book came out before the Ohio kidnapped women were found; it is not based on that story at all.)
