My husband is teaching a kid for a year. He drives to the kid and back once a week. He is charging $1,000 for the job. I counted it to be about $20 a lesson. That seems really undersold to me. Is this the standard?

Same as any private lesson in your area. Depends on where you live?
Is it not the same as someone would charge for a math lesson or piano lesson.
Ask around, what the going rate is.

What does one learn in a bat mitzvah lesson?
Bar mitzvah lesson I assume is to learn the leining.

Oh ok. cool.
I guess my question gave away my old-fashioned leanings.

$20 an hour is very low. Unless your husband is doing a favor.

Monsey area. Can no one tell me how much they paid? I don't have anyone else to ask clearly.

We paid $40 per lesson. I forget if each lesson was 45 or 60 minutes. The guy teaching was only around 20 years old. Far rockaway area. We drove our son to the teachers house.
Hatslacha!

Thank you for responding! Do you bring your child there or the Rebbe comes to you?

We pay $36 for a 45 min. lesson. We bring our son to shul where her meets the Rav. We live OOT. This was discounted price to us since we are financially struggling, normally this Rav charges $45 for 45 min. The standard for our community is anywhere between $36-$50 per 45 min., more if you want an hour long lesson.

We pay $80 per hour for bat mitzvah lessons. The charge is the same for bar mitzvah. We live OOT.
As for what is learned in bat mitzvah lessons, I imagine it depends a lot on what your community does for the bat mitzvah.
My DD is learning all the leyning as well as to daven kabbalat shabbat. She will also give a dvar torah.
(Obviously on the left of the spectrum here. Please don't bash.)

I think we paid 1800-2000 & we took him to the Rebbis house
Though if your husband is new at this may not be absurd for first few students until he has experience & can be recommended

I also think that typically the tutor gets paid more if he travels to the student. Because of the travel time.

We paid $1500, I brought him to the tutor's house. It was for about 8 months iirc. He charges $1500 regardless of how long it takes your specific child to learn it (so I assume the amount of time varies to some extent by virtue of the child's personality /ability/bar mitzvah parsha but it's always $1500)
