I wear lenses and it didn't bother me. I got a bit teary in my nose but nothing drastic. same deal when I do onions. If I'm in my lenses, doesn't bother me, in glasses I'm tearing away.

I get really bad. I'm super sensitive to onions too.
We're not talking about just teary eyes here...

Do goggles really work?

Yes they work. See if you have swimming goggles at home. But don't try them until you have recovered from what you're going through now. Start off clear eyed.

For next year

Thanks ra_mom. I'm done for this year, though it's taking really long to recover. I'll make sure to have some goggles on hand next year.

Are the goggles in the link the ones you use?

Try using a food processor instead of a hand grater.

Regular swimming goggles that fit well. But someone I know uses the onion goggles.

Chew sugar-free gum while doing it. I don't remember where I heard it and have no idea why it works, but it does for onions. I don't think I've tried it for horseradish.

I turned on the vent hood fan of my range, and transferred the horseradish from my food processor into containers right by the stove. The vent hood fan sucked away the pungent fumes.

I used a mini chopper which unlike a food processor doesn't have any holes to add ingredients. I teared up a bit when transferring. It was fine.
