Yes, when I was a little girl I wanted a short hairstyle like Dorothy Hammill (70s Olympian figure skater). When Mom finally let me have my hair cut like that, people kept mistaking me for a boy. I was so devastated!
But you know, it got me in the habit of wearing skirts..  so maybe it was a "first step."
