lets say I have 103 fever and need something from the pharmacy so I go. Its my right. Nevermind that I am positive for flu and it’s contagious. Other people shouldn’t go outside if they dont want to get sick.
How is this different than NY’ers going out of state and staying home except for grocery and gas and mikvah and any other essential.
Those old people should just stay home and come in no contact with anyone even if it means eating canned foods and not getting their medicines rather than get deliveries of food and possibly get sick that way. Thats what they get for being old.

No, you should definitely NOT be going to the pharmacy or anywhere else if you're sick.
And yes, old and vulnerable people should stay home.
It's 2 different things.

Someone can be carrying Coronavirus and have no symptoms. Anyone who is from NY needs to go under the assumption that they are carrying it. And yet we go all these posts asking how they can go travel and expose other people. I dont see the difference morally even if someone is legally allowed

I am being sarcastic as I keep hearing people brush off the elderly and immuncompromised as not part of this equation at all (I myself am immuncompromised)

That is why most people that go quarantine for 2 weeks.
But if you know for certain that you're sick, you shouldn't be going out at all.

This threads are sooo annoying. Personally I am not going to Florida,
But say someone whole family for sure had Corona, Purim time... what’s the problem w/ them going to Florid in June.
This whole thing of literally listening to every word the government says is utter stupidity, people have to think for themselves a little also.
And no no one can prove you can be contagious for like 120 days.

How is it possible to drive 15 hours without stopping for gas or bathroom? The travel itself is not possible to do unsefishly unless one has already been quarantined properly for 2 weeks .
And thats not even talking about those who are asking about going to the mikva or grocery stores

Unless someone was tested positive and then had 2 negative tests they cant assume they are clear . And thats the point that if you cant prove you are not contagious the moral obligation is to assume you are

As to why do I care , my grandmother and many other relatives in their 90’s live in Florida and have been begging us to come but we cant for their sake . My grandmother had to go through cardiac surgery alone . And to think that people who might have Coronavirus are going and contaminating those same hospitals filled with elderly infirm people makes me seething.

This is why we wear a mask when out and we follow social distancing rules.

Wearing a mask and following social distancing REDUCES risk. It does not eliminate it.
Traveling across country (esp from an area with active outbreak) INCREASES risk because you open new pathways for the disease to travel.
It’s mind blowing that with all the information out there people still don’t get this. Or they are being purposefully obtuse. I don’t know.

No, it does not increase risk if you stay quarantined.

Come on.. A most ppl that had mild symptoms are clear after 2-3 weeks..
Its Not isolation for life.. And these Liberal/socialist idiots just wanna control the ppl at this point.

What age are you? I'm in my fifties and bH I didn't go to the hospital but one day I probably should have. A good part of the 12 days of symptoms (day 13 I got my appetite back and no more fever) were NO picnic. These were not mild symptoms. It's taking weeks for my husband and me to get our full strength back. This is NOT the regular flu.

You know, there are some Republicans who are also conservative about opening the economy, especially if they live in hard-hit states.

The bolded is so true, as I just found out for myself. 2 members of my household tested positive about a week after purim. A few days later I was under the weather, and given the circumstances assumed I had it too. B"h I had a very very mild case and was fine after just a few days. I've been totally symptom free for somewhere between 5-6 weeks. Well I just gave birth and they tested me when I got to the hospital and lo and behold I tested positive! So it's unless you for sure tested negative you can't just assume you are.

1. Many, many people did not test, so they have no idea if they definitely had it or not. Just because your wife had it doesn't mean you did. And you can't make assumptions about how quickly you will no longer be a carrier either.
2. Even assuming that an entire family tested negative the morning they set off on their journey, making it a thing to go increases the chance that other, less responsible, people will go as well. The more chatter there is about this one and that one going, the more people will normalize going, and it will be out of hand.
3. As op described, people are under the impression that as long as it's legal, it's ok. No. If people keep saying it's selfish, maybe it's something to think about. Pretty sure it's legal to leave your house and go grocery shopping even if you have covid. That doesn't make it ok. It's still in poor judgement and terribly selfish. So even if south Carolina has no laws about people from NY visiting, it's really inconsiderate to go right now.
4. Please stop saying that everyone is quarantining. They are not. People are getting off the plane, getting in a taxi/ renting a car at the airport and driving to their grandparents condo in Miami Beach. The condo is small and hot. There's nothing to do inside. They are going grocery shopping, picking up food in restaurants, getting gas, etc. Perhaps a very small minority of people are truly landing at the airport and then getting into a private vehicle and going straight to a private home, where they stay on their own property for 14 days. But I assure you that it's far from the norm. So. The vast majority of people coming are doing so selfishly and irresponsibly.
