How common is it to have a seizure disorder that is "outgrown"?

I had multiple unprovoked (assuming that includes seizures triggered by strobe lights etc) seizures in childhood and teens. Unmedicated aside for a few months. Only one seizure in adulthood.

As I mentioned above, there are many different types and causes of seizures. Some indeed can improve over time and others are lifelong. Sometimes we can predict, based on the symptoms and results of our tests, but sometimes we cannot predict.

It is very important to take medication as prescribed because individuals with poorly controlled epilepsy have a higher mortality; look up SUDEP.

Seablue, is it possible to diagnose epilepsy after one seizure? Would anything show up on an EEG?

I had a seizure as a child. Went to a neurologist, diagnosed me with epilepsy on the basis that I had other smaller seizures called auras that were entirely unnoticeable to an outsider and to me was a specific weird sensation that I felt sometimes. They didn't figure out what the cause was but I had a bunch of EEGs and MRIs and was put on medication. The auras went away and I didnt have another seizure. A couple years later we weaned off the meds and bH never had a seizure again.
