I only have about 1/4 cup of barley to use in my chulent. Is there something else that I can add to my chulent, like brown rice or quinoa, but that my kids won't notice the difference? Not worth it for me to use rice or quinoa if the kids will turn up their noses and refuse to eat it? Or will it be ok with less barley? I don't want it to be too watery.

Do you have short grain brown rice (not regular) or sushi rice?

I like short grain brown rice but I dont know if long grain will work. It may get mushy.

Just use less water with the less water. Or borrow more barley.
