To spend a whole day outing out, not eat a normal lunch and come home drained and still need to do baths and feed kids supper

It's so important to pack food for a meal if you're out all day. It's understandable that you have zero energy now.

I don't have the energy! But I try my best to join in with DH and kids because we always saw my mom squirm out of trips and days out, saying she needs to run the house and make the dinner and we didn't like it.
We'd have rather have had noodles or cereal, and had her come join us.
My kids want me on the outing. The house will have to wait, and the suppers may have to be simple.
(I spend the evenings prep cooking for Yom tov)

I packed for the kids but they ate it on the go. Wasn't time for a full sit down meal

If I go out I always make sure dinner is ready. Whether it’s leftovers that we microwave , or crockpot dinner or we order takeout/fast food and pick it up on our way home.
Also bring food and drink on your trip.

Why didn’t you yourself eat on the go? Eat a sandwich , a yogurt something

You don't need a full sit down meal. But you'll wear yourself out without proper food.
