Worth reading at the link IMHO. The italics add a lot.

Very powerful and evocative.

Incredibly disturbing. Will give you nightmares. Think this needs a trigger warning. I'm literally feeling sick.

Pansy, I don't think you understand. The story is not about a psychopath who literally, physically imprisons his wife, though every now and then one reads a horrifying news report about someone who does exactly that. The chain is a metaphor for the halachic anchor that figuratively imprisons a woman in an unwanted marriage.

The writing is brilliant, in that it presents itself as a simple, though riveting, tale of suspense, but at the same time shows that the true horror is something else entirely, and applies to every mesurevet get whether her recalcitrant husband is a genuine psychopath or a garden-variety louse.

Absolutely beautiful writing and incredible storytelling. Notice how it's the religious world that tortures this woman. From the shadchan, the social norms to the abusive in laws, husband and beis din. To the halacha itself.

The Agunah - Lehrhaus

This happens more often than we think.

Bh I got out but went through years of him trying to portray me as mentally ill.

The world needs to know not to believe anything when they hear about a separation or divorce.
