Its the hosts choice.
She decides to either keep or offer you take them back. To ask for the leftovers back or to pack up your own dish leftovers is impolite.
As I host I offer everyone leftovers bc I can't use it all and it's so much to deal with. We do the take out to go containers and offer people to take with.
