Can anyone tell me about these or any other suitable schools in the greater Baltimore area (including Silver Spring) for my daughter?
Elementary school age, bright, sweet, friendly but has ADHD and gets lost in the large class she is in.
She needs a smaller class but needs a little guidance/prompting but can usually do the school work.

Thanks

Is she in school in Baltimore? Will a 1:1 help? I think those schools are for girls with more learning differences than adhd. Maybe she can be mainstreamed in a smaller class?

We don't live there yet but were thinking of moving there. Especially for a school.
A lot of the websites talk about ADHD which is confusing. They don't specify must have dyslexia or a second diagnosis.
She doesn't have autism. An 1:1 helper is just a bandaid.
She needs to learn skills and social emotional learning that kids with ADHD need.

Can anyone explain what type of students/disabilities each of these schools are geared towards? That way I can see if my daughter may fit it. We are in the process of getting retested to see if there are other disabilities but we want to make sure we are in touch with the right schools ...

She is a great kid but I know she can do much better in a smaller school with more attentive teachers who understand her and her needs.

Sulam is in silver spring and is a program housed in the local modern orthodox school. Its co ed. They work with learning disabilities inside or outside the mainstream classroom.

I’m pretty sure all the schools mentioned (except sulam, know nothing about it) is for elementary aged girls.

Do they try to mainstream them for high school? My daughter is currently mainstreamed.

They haven’t been around long enough to know.
BY will work with you and has small class sizes and lots of help available.

BY- the regular classroom? How small?
What kind of resources do they have?

(Coming from a city with almost nothing if you aren't severely disabled...the schools just want to hold kids back who are academically fine but cant deal with large class sizes. Or push them onto another school and NIMBY).

Bump.
Can anyone tell me about the "regular" schools for girls and if they have resources available? Pull outs or specialists or smaller class sizes or anything?
I could give story after story of clueless teachers locally (from me or friends) who don't understand ADHD and the fact that they can "still be smart" or that sitting in the front isn't "playing favorites" but an actual documented need from the educational Psychologist? I could go on...
I am just in the wrong city and in the wrong schools and am looking for help...

Binyan Yisroel is for kids with language based learning disorders, including dyslexia. Currently started with grades 3-4.
Tiferes Golda is for girls with an overall low IQ profile.
Neither is for girls with ADHD. Your daughter may need extra support in a regular classroom, and possibly pullout in the Learning Center if there is an academic deficiency.

You need to speak with the schools directly, not ask here. You’ll get the answers you need that way and can decide from there. Just a question- are you trying to hold off medicating for ADHD and wanting her to learn to learn function without? Not assuming that you are, just asking as that will probably be an important question to answer for any of the schools that you listed.

No she is medicated. But medication only does so much and she can still use extra support and skill building. She is probably doing as well as she has because of the medication. Under the care of a psychiatrist who has been adjusting it as we notice side effects or other issues. We are not anti-meds. We just want the best for her and for her to feel like a success and to be successful (to the best of her capabilities).
I did call one of the above mentioned schools and got way different information from them as what I heard from a teacher there and from a 3rd party. I can't seem to get a clear answer- just "apply and send us $$$" and then we will let you know if she is a good candidate".
I just heard about some of the other schools and am wondering about them. How else is someone from out of Baltimore to know about what is available? Imamother with follow up with schools! Very Happy

My elementary daughter is at Bnos. She was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD and is in a regular class and pulled out for learning center support - basically one on one tutoring. If you want to discuss further, maybe one of the mods can volunteer to be a go between and I will pm them my user name so you can pm me. Hatzlacha!

They have resources. There is about 20 girls in a class in Bais Yakov and Bnos. The teachers usually go by what you say as long as they see it helps the child. Did you call Bais Yakov?

How can we do this? I so appreciate it!
Can you explain more about what the Learning Center is?

Thanks. I haven't called BY or Bnos. I didn't know if they could make accommodations... again my kids current school was very inflexible...
