What would you do if you were hired as a full time employee and no one told you at your interview that there was a training period that involved you only working half those hours for 2 months and only getting paid for half those hours during that time? The employer isn't willing to pay you as a full timer for those 2 months even after you brought this up.

I'm so sorry. 😞
Did you sign an offer letter with the terms?

Honestly that doesn't bode well for this workplace in general. Most people that work full time do so because they can't afford to only work part time, so it's really unacceptable to 'surprise' the new hire with this.

Obviously I don't know your circumstances exactly but I'd say to look for something else.

If you're not desperate for that specific job, I would leave and find something else. I had a job that did that, but they were very clear about it before I accepted the job.

Totally unacceptable. I would absolutely tell them that they either pay the agreed upon salary with the agreed upon hours, or I would rescind my acceptance of their offer

To me the biggest thing with an employer is communication and respect. This shows from the get go that they will have neither, and I would be wary to work there at all now.

I had something similar and wish I had never taken that job. I quit 8 weeks later. There was zero respect to employees. Out of the 5 workplaces I’ve had in my life, this place was noticeably different IN A BAD WAY.

Why didn't you sign an offer letter with all the terms. I've never worked somewhere where I didn't sign a contract.

If my employer was dishonest, I would leave and find a new job.

Clarification, as I'm not posting about myself. An agreement was signed. It stated that the employee would be a full time employee. No mention was made about the part time training period.

I am not sure what employment law has to say about this, but it's definitely not an acceptable business practice.

If you're not the employee, why are you asking what the employee should do - shouldn't the onus of fixing this be on the employer?

The employee asked me what to do, as I work in a similar office.

The poor communication of the trial period is a red flag to me for how the business is run and where else this pattern may show up
