Challah Recipe
Combine:
4c boiling water
1 1/2c sugar (I use demurah with is a raw sugar)
1 1/2c oil
7tsp salt
add to five pounds flour
combine:
3TBSP yeast
1tsp sugar
1/2c warm water
proof
then add 3-8 eggs to yeast mixture
mix well and then add to flour
kneed. If it is sticky add a bit more flour, if it is dry add a bit of oil. It all depends on the humidity.
Rise ~1 hour until doubled
shape
Rise again for an hour
egg
bake 325* for ~45 minutes (until golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped on bottom)

so similar to the one I use.
I use 7 eggs and 2 c sugar. otherwise same thing.
I let the dough rise for 3 hrs punching down every 1/2 hr. although if im out its ok to rise without punching down.
this challah is actually packed with calories but to taste it ud never guess. its sweet and dense but not to doughy or eggy.

I use the shrink wrapped granulated yeast.

Thank you so much Liba! I have tried so many recipes and none of them were ever perfect. This one was! Everyone loved it, even my picky challah eater! I used 7 eggs and between 1/2 and 3/4 C sugar, like Solo recommended. This one is a keeper and I really want to try to bake every week that I can now.

I make it into eight loaves. Each loaf fits into a standard loaf pan or I can fit 2-3 on a cookie sheet.
