We currently live in Somewhere in tristate area and love it , but space is a big issue for us and the prices here for a two bedroom are ridiculous for what they are offering (think 1850 for a 2 bedroom with dinky wooden cabinets, no laundry, no dishwasher, half a bedroom the size of a small walk in closet etc). so we are thinking of making the move to Monsey - but it has to be to VG/blueberry hill for a variety of reasons. (commute, near young couples etc)
so can anyone who knows about it tell me about what kind of crowd there is?
what the 2 bedroom and the 2 bedrooms with basements are currently going for
what the difference is between blueberry and VG
AND most importantly would we feel comfortable moving there if we know no one ie is it friendly or more cliquey- because I am very nervous about that
also who do I contact for apartment openings ? is it hard to get an apartment there?

It's not easy to get a 2 bedroom, there's a waiting list. Rent for a two bedroom is anywhere from 1550-1850 depending on if it's redone, private enterance or duplex. Crowd is nice, middle of the road. If you're friendly and put in an effort you shouldn't have a problem making friends. Main difference between blueberry and Victoria is that a lot of the blueberry apartments are privately owned and Victoria are not. Blueberry is usually slightly more expensive and perhaps a little bigger/nicer but not really by much.

Thanks- so with the waitlist situation are u saying that I may not have any way to move straight into a 2 bedroom, say by this summer?

Currently on the wait list so I shouldn't tell you this but you are more likely to get a two bedroom in VG if you are a new tenant. They swear that it doesn't make a difference when they sell you the one bedrooms but then say nothing is available. They just told me 2 bedroom is 16-1800 for renovated apartment. The not renovated ones are kind of gross.

another q for those who commute daily to the city on the monsey bus how much does it come out to yearly ? for one.
are the winters in monsey very boring?

It's $290 per month if you go 5 days a week.
Not any more boring than any other place in ny.

If u r high maintenance u may not like it because it isn't upgraded or fancy but it's very convenient. If u arent particular its a good choice. There's young couples and kids and playgrounds and the ppl r very nice and u will meet ppl who sit out on shabbos afternoon and the kids play outside all the time doesn't matter the weather, winter ummer or spring..

I live in Victoria Gardens and I'm friendly and not cliquey
Even if you get a non-renovated apt, they usually don't have an issue with scraping and redoing the parquet floors and repainting the walls. Also if you are kosher-keeping you can have them replace your appliances with new ones.
We moved into a non-renovated apt but they redid the floors, painted the walls, put in new windows and appliances and we put in our own kitchen cabinets and the place looks brand new even though it wasn't.
They are also pretty timely when you need the maintenance to come fix stuff (plumbing, windows, etc).
We have a one bedroom apt.
