Does anyone have a special trick to get velvet yamulkas smelling clean again. I have tried to gently wash in shampoo weekly, they shrunk and became brown after a few washes. My sister replaces then very often. With 3 guys wearin yamulkas in my house, its to expensive.
Any advice?

well re-shape them onto a sheitel head for drying ... also don't wash them so often
alternatively change the velvet to cloth - they're easier to wash without getting ruined

Some velvet yarmulkas are specifically washable and dryable. (The six-part chassidish ones are.)

So funny to be seeing this today. My husband wears a crocheted one and I spent part of yesterday hand-washing it, desperately trying to get the smell out. It was easy to get the fabric back to normal, but getting it to smell fresh was another matter.
I enjoyed drying it on my kid's teddy bear. He looked better in it than my husband.
