What can I do to help my 10 year dd focus in class? The child is smart and capable of knowing everything that is covered in class. But dd has trouble focusing. Any suggestion? I went to eye doctor and she sees well. Anything else to check? When I go over material with her before test and studey with her she can get the 100%.
I'm studying with her and basically teaching it to her from scratch, so she can handle learning all the material and knowing it. Is it the pressure of must know before test that drives her so she can only learn under pressure? or can she only learn one on one?
Where do I start and where do I turn?

Have you gotten her an ADHD evaluation? Would you consider meds if that's that it is?

Google "executive functioning." Does your dd have trouble with executive functioning skills in general? Or just with paying attention in class?

she's not hyper or impulsive. she behaves really well, never disrespectful and never does trouble.

She's helpful at home, she stays focused when cleaning up the entire playroom. She stays focused when doing a craft project for however long it takes. She can watch a play for 3 hours straight or read a book for a looooong time. She also lisyens to stories in school. The stories she repeats at home but the actual 'boring' lesson loses her attention. She just sits in class quietly without paying attention to what the eacher says.

That's my guess too.

This was me, as a kid. Is she always losing things, forgetting things, starting a task and not finishing it?

I could focus on things that I was interested in, like a big book, or classes that I liked. But anything else...

It's called ADD. Without the hyper component. That's why it takes longer for parents to realize their child has this issue because not hyper and many times very well behaved too. Get her evaluated, and you will see how het life can be changed for the better

Don’t mean to hijack this thread but going through this now with my 5 year old
My mother told me to try omega 3 and when I went to vitamin store they told me to give him a prenatal-because of what’s in it and a b12. They told me to try for two weeks and see what happens. Anyone ever tried this?! They said a lot of these kids are low on iron…I’m not very into vitamins so a bit skeptical….

If youre low on iron you up your copper. Prenatals are full of junk to begin with. Get to the core and dont pile these vitamins on top

Maybe she needs the prism glasses done my the eye specialist in London, NY and I'm sure other places. She might have weak eye muscles which might make it hard for her to focus. A regular checkup at an eye doctor wouldn't show that.

I'm not familiar with Inattentive ADHD. Do you still think it is Inattentive ADHD?

'yes, I'm actually interested in hearing more. I wasn't thinking of any meds. So I wish theres a vitamin that could solve the issue .
She doesn't sleep a lot. Could this be something to consider? If yes, id much prefer not to gave melo chew. Any other suggestion to give her more sleep?

could you please tell me more? Is there someone in the tristate that could evaluate her to tell me if it's worth the trip to London?

Thank you!
Is this a good book for focusing issues in general or only if she's ADHD?

I know someone that opened an Ot place that specializes I think in processing issues. Maybe that can help if you’re in Brooklyn?
I can try to find out the name of the place if it interests you. (It’s a friend of a friend so I don’t know all details just once happened to meet her and we spoke a little about what she does. )
