Today’s task is to learn to solve the Rubik’s cube. It was my sons request at bedtime. Tomorrow’s task will be to know it well enough to teach it to him.

Currently I’m sitting with a Rubik’s cube and watching a tutorial. Is it possible to learn to do it in one hour? Do most adults know how to solve it? Am a being a good mom?

(The last one you don’t have to answer Smile )

No. It takes longer than an hour.
But you can probably do the first layer in an hour.
Rinks cube is solved in layers. You have top layer, middle layer, and bottom layer.

Watch the story method in YouTube.

I used to know how, but I need time to practice
And refresh my memory. I can still do the top two layers, but the bottom is a little more challenging and I would have to remember the algorithms or stories.

You are devoted! I remember my brother working for hours to get better and faster, getting "speed cubes" that were smoother to turn and you could flip the corners so he could go faster... it was quite the obsession!
How old is your son? Can you get him a library book where he can teach himself?

My daughter can solve it in 5 minutes. Shouldn't be too hard to learn

That was one of my dds covid projects.
She can do it in about a minute.

You need to a) watch all the videos and keep trying and b) be highly motivated!!!!

I've never looked up the algorithm, but I have friends whom can do it quickly and easily. Maybe you guys can watch it together, if that's what you want

Yes, Most of my kids can do it in two to three minutes. Practice and more practice.
But the initial learning takes a lot of time. Not an hour.

Yes. I learned recently and I can literally do it with my eyes shut.
BUT -
It was one of the things I was sure I could never learn, until I challenged myself. And then it took me over a week to learn, with determination, being shown how and many hours of practice, because at least for me learning is a process and if I run ahead without giving each stage enough practice, I get lost a few stages in and forget everything.
And then I practiced some more.
Some people have a knack for spacial thinking and can visualize the whole thing easily and figure it out but for those of us who don't, I think learning step by step, practice and patience are the way to go.

All my boys can do it. Under a minute. My bil A"H taught them. I'm pretty smart but don't have the brain for it.

My kids taught me the slow method when it was in style about a year ago. The slow method takes 2-3 minutes. It's just memorizing a bunch of steps and not necessarily a mark of intelligence. Maybe memory.

But the fast method used by experts can take seconds and is definitely a mark of some sort of spacial intelligence that I don't have!

Look up thesergsb tutorials on youtube. In my prime I was able to solve in less than a minute! I even was able to solve bigger cubes at one point:) I've lost my ability now though!

It’s actually very simple. You just have to memorize the algorithm
I learnt in less than an hour (I also learned for my kids lol)
