What is the most repeated compliment you receive from others ?
Do you agree with them?

Probably in school as a "smart" kid and "goody goody" always got seen for my behavior and participation. I didn't feel seen as a person only that they saw me for following the rules and being "good" not for actually taking the time and care to get to know me and my personality traits because everyone's busy with the "hard" kids. And every year the cycle repeats itself...
In addition the kids obviously are you get and less mature (some may be jealous as well) so they also only see me for that- and those must've been the most frustrating long lasting compliments... Very invalidating
And by being complimented I don't mean noticed, I mean this is what was complimented on report cards etc

Definitely on my height and size. It’s true but it’s just my nature.

20s- pretty hair, nice clothes/taste
30s- great mother, well brought up kids
40s- much fewer compliments, maybe good cook. But I just started my 40s

That I’m a good teacher, kids love my class, kids are learning so much etc.
Honestly, until I entered the classroom at the age of 21 to teach, I was a wallflower. No one noticed me, was very shy and quiet and not particularly good at anything. My success in the classroom (and the compliments) have given me the confidence to also succeed in other relationships and arenas.

I was always complimented for being smart. Didn't feel like much of a compliment because I didn't work to be smart, it's how Hashem created me. Had a miniature existential crisis when I became a mother, because being smart doesn't make you a good parent, and being smart really doesn't matter anymore at that stage. So my main characteristic, as it were, became irrelevant, and I was left with - who am I now that I'm a mom?
Anyhow, it's been a decade of motherhood and nowadays my primary compliments come from dh, who tells me I'm hot and a wonderful mother. My friends stay in touch so there's the implicit compliment of being a good friend. I enjoy hosting, and guests seem to enjoy coming back, so I take it I'm a decent cook and conversationalist. All much more important than being smart.

That I'm brave 😁
Sometimes there is a little bit of judgement in it like "I wouldn't do that if I were you..." 😁 but that's okay. I'm proud of my bravery, even though insider's secret: partly it is due to naiveity, and part due to desperation.

THIS SO MUCH!! You worded it beautifully!
This is why I felt invisible as posted above, like you're not seeing ME just something about me that I didn't work for.

That I'm easygoing. And I hate it. Because I was just expected to be easygoing. At a certain point I made an official announcement (between my family) that I'm not easygoing anymore

That I'm for the books or that I'm a character.
Gotta say, I love being told that people enjoy my personality.

I get the same from coworkers. That I’m so flexible and easygoing, which is nice to heard but then I get the short end of the stick sometimes because they think oh well she’s so easy going she won’t care. Um Yes I do
