YOel on contrary, includes Hashem's name.
Some people write Michael Micha-l, Raphael Rapha-l and so on.
there are tons of names in that style... Yocheved, Ariel, Batya, Daniel, Eli, most seem to be male.

Sholom is completely different. There is a specific halacha about the name Sholom. (I read it in the Kitzur years ago.)
I don't have any Sholom's but I love the name.

Can you explain it to me? We considered the name for our son, but went with a similar name, but not Sholom.

I don't think there's much to explain. It simply says that Sholom is one of the names of Hashem and shouldn't be said in the bathroom. If I remember correctly, it goes on to say that when trying to avoid saying the name of Hashem, we shouldn't say the very-frequently-used "Ado- shem" because it's not respectful to Hashem, and then other things like that.

How do you just decide that shem haShem is not holy?

You could call a child Shalom Yisrael, a beautiful combination. But now I don't know if you can say Yisrael in the bathroom either!

Hannah, I would want to reread it again to refresh my memory to answer your question.

I learn somethign new every day! I never heard that there are those that dont name the name shalom or use it in bathroom. I never even knew it was shem Hashem!!!
I am trying to understand the problem with names that end in K-l or K-ah. Do u mean names like gedalya, zecharya, daniel, rephael, shmuel, ...Etc ??

Yup, and I remember learning that one shouldn't say Shalom before davening bircos hashachar in the morning.

For the record, Yael doesn't contain any semblance of Shem Hashem.

Dunno, it's what I learned, but I have no clue where it comes from. Maybe ask your LOR?

a lot of people have called "chaya" "chaika" for that reason ... (at least in the older generation)
