my question is:
what is the head of the onion, the part with hairs coming out or the pointed top part?

Some Poskim say that mayim megulim are not to be used for netilas yadaim. This means water that was uncovered during the night. According to them, the water should be covered when left by the bed. Other Poskim disagree

you know this had me confused for years, but I finally got it. when you hold an onion right side up, the top is the point and the bottom is round with strings coming out. BUT, for this I have learned, that the round part with strings coming out is really the top and should not be cut off if your planning on saving the onion overnight.

sorry, but those strings are the roots, and as far as I know, the roots are at the bottom of things.....

I know, thats why I always thought the top was the top, but finally I learned that what is really the bottom, in this case is called the top...

who came up with this reverse logic?

if you think about it in a different way you can understand it.
think of the roots as the part that attaches the onion to the plant. right? then flip it upside down in your mind. top means where the onion meets plant. not how it grows in gravity.

we're on the different wave length right now...
and my tuner seems to be broken.
roots, as I know of them, attach onion to the ground...
as can be seen here:
http://www.fotosearch.com/PHD183/12047/
the greenery is the equivalent ov leaves, and it's on the top,
and the roots are on the bottom.

if you had an onion growing in zero gravity, would the leaves be up or down? they would face the light. roots are where the dirt is so it doesnt mean top and bottom as in gravity. think of top as where the onion starts to grow from, the roots.

and from this we can learn from an onion a lesson in the way a Yid lives his life! he has to keep to his roots in order to stay attached
