Listen, the most basic things we do: TH, shabbos and kashrus, even when explained in simplest most beautiful/inspiring way possible, just seem crazy to most of America. It doesn't matter how you spin it all, the vast majority of people are open to the idea of spirituality and general religion, but not all these "rules."

Take TH: we don't touch our spouse half the month, we insert clothes into our private parts to look for even a speck of blood, twice a day for a week. You can explain the benefits of it but these are still the facts and they seem bizarre and extreme to anyone outside the community.

Just because her book was published doesn't mean they're going to reach it in the school system or anything....it's frustrating as frum jews to hear about it but haven't you seen the garbage they publish these days? Or watched half the idiots they put on tv shows?

Just forget about her and the book - the rest of America will in about a minute.

And the View is not going to put on an articulate chassidic woman b/c they just don't care enough. Deborah Feldman's segment was a few minutes long. It just wasn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things so they're not going to continue it all with some rebuttal.

Furthermore, we're talking about someone who appears to have had a a seriously troubled life, one none of us would have coped with well at all. All her hurt tainted everything else in her upbringing, skewing her view. Give her a break. Most likely there won't be a sequel to her book and life will move on til the next thing pops up.

Actually, she is writing a sequel to the book. Plus a novel about a Hasidic man who wants to join the NYPD that's based on a real-life character whom everyone in Williamsburg knows.

She claims to look up to this man (who joined the NYPD and IS WELL KNOWN) she has it on an old post on her blog with a picture of him
