The $28 was for approx 4 lbs of chicken cutlet which was 8 large pieces. My family finished most of it- I have one piece left for Thursday which is leftover day if you don't like dinner.

Bought at a local butcher.

I believe I am not the only one serving this item-so why is everyone's dinner so much cheaper? Am I paying too much?

I get my chicken cutlets for $3.69 a lb. , so you are paying double than I am for the same item.

Do you buy it at a butcher? My husband prefers I buy only by a butcher.

In Monsey the supermarkets each have their own butcher and meat dept. There aren't any individual butcher stores.

I am trying to figure out an average of how much people spend on their daily supper.
If you can please specify how many people it fed- and extra credit if you share the menu.
You can round it out- no need for being exact.

Thank you

I'll go first:
2 adults
5 kids eating

$28 meat
$15 sides
$5 condiments

What side dish costs 15$

Dinner tonight is lasagna. I made 2 9x13 pans, enough to feed 2 adults, 4 kids, plus leftovers to send for 2 kids for lunch tomorrow.

2 boxes lasagna noodles- $4
3/4 if a 2 pound bag of shredded cheese- about $9
1 jar marinara sauce- $2.50
1/2 bag chopped broccoli- about $3
Total about $18

I think the most expensive make I make is fish with rice and cauliflower. Again, feeds 2 adults, 4 kids, and 2 kids for lunch the next day.
2 pieces salmon (enough for 1 adult and 2 child portions) - about $10-$12
1 bag frozen tilapia- $4-$6 (depends if I got on sale or not)
3 boxes near east rice pilaf (I know I could make cheaper rice but this is the only rice one of my kids will eat) - $6
1 1/2 bags frozen cauliflower- $7.5
Total: over $30! Wow, it's the first time I actually calculated the total for that meal. Knew it was expensive but still a shock.

The only meat we do during the week (or shabbos for that matter) is ground beef and still, feeding a family healthy, well balanced meals is simply expensive.

We are 2 adults, and 4 eating kids. I try to make a protein, a starch, and a veggie at every meal. It is very difficult for me to spend less than $17-22 on enough chicken or meat for a dinner that will feed all of us. No, we are not overweight. Add a salad to that, and we are easily at $25-30, with a starch. I feel better knowing that if we went out to eat it would definitely be at least double. I don't get how posters spend $5-10. Either they eat like rabbits, or are not adding properly.

I was travelling so dh made supper. 1 adult and 2 kids

1 pack sausages - about $6 (not hot dogs...real sausages made from fresh meat)
potatoes $1.50
some veggie chicken nuggets
I'm not sure if he served any veggies but I would usually include a salad or frozen peas. ($3, maybe more)

We seem to spend a LOT on fruit and veggies.

I make a lot of one pot meals, I stretch my proteins.

Some meals that go over well and dont cost a lot are:

One pot pasta or potato gnocchi and meat sauce (I try and throw in a few of the frozen spinach balls)
Chicken Lo Mein with lots of veggies
Korean beef bowls with brown rice and different veggies like shredded carrots, cucumber, avocado, red cabbage
Beef or dairy taco bowls
Turkey zuchini burgers
Salmon Patties
Soups of all kinds
Eggplant boats with roasted chickpeas, humus, techina etc
One pot pasta with cheese, sauce veggies

None of this usually costs me more then $15

2 adults 6 very young kids - fish or chicken enough to feed us all is between $15 and $20
Plus a side and veggies, soup, condiments etc I would estimate $35-$40 a meal.

We eat a ton and I don’t try to cut costs on food so I would guess between $5 and $20, on average about $10 a dinner ( usually makes enough for lunch too). We usually have soup, salad, protein and a carb ( sometimes one pot dish or seperate). Kosher cheese and meat is not cheap here and I buy nice fish occasionally because I really enjoy it
