Any idea a cheaper way to get from Brooklyn area to Orlando?

Walk. But start soon so you get there in time. It’s only a 16 days walk, but you might need to rest on the way.
Alternatively, you may want to bike. Should take you about 4 full days of pedaling.

If your mother buys clothing for kids that you dislike

You dislike your kids?
So you outsource the clothes shopping to your mother?
And this is enough of a thing that you expect other people to answer? Maybe you should start a support group or something. Hugs!

(Seriously, I have trouble buying clothes for the grandchildren. I don't get pshat in some of the styles, matching seems overwhelming for those who like it etc. I stick with gift certificates or making sure I give a gift receipt. And largely spend on them in other ways.)
